Casstrom Paddle Strop - Upkeep your Knife's Edge
The larger surface area of the Casstrom Paddle Strop makes it perfect for sharpening sessions at home or during basecamp activities. Casstrom ensure their knives come sharp straight out of the box but to maintain the same great sharpness, care is needed to be taken. That is why Casstrom have produced artisan handcrafted strops; the Casstrom Paddle Strop and Casstrom Field Strop. Casstrom's strops showcase artisanal craftsmanship, featuring approximately 3.5mm thick vegetable-tanned Italian Leather wrapped around a core of waxed European Oak. Each strop boasts a double-sided design, offering both coarse and fine surfaces, with the distinctive Casström logo. The Paddle Strop measures 18cm x 4.5cm.
What Is The Use of a Strop ?
Strops are important in maintaining and achieving a knife's sharp edge. By consistently stropping after each knife use, you prolong the blade's sharp edge, reducing the necessity for frequent sharpening using coarse tools like diamonds or whetstones. To use a strop effectively, position the knife's edge against the leather and draw the blade away from the edge towards the spine. Repeat this process around 20 times on both sides. The strop features a rougher surface on one side and a finer one on the other. For increased abrasiveness on the coarse side, consider applying stropping paste.
