Casstrom Field Strop

Casström Knives are meticulously crafted to arrive shaving sharp straight out of the box. To maintain this sharpness, Casstrom offer a line of handcrafted leather strops specifically designed for maintaining the keen edge of knives. This Casstrom Field Strop is ideal for on-the-go use due to its compact size, perfect for outdoor ventures. Meanwhile, the Casstrom Paddle Strop features a larger strop area, making it the ideal choice for sharpening sessions either at home or basecamp.

What is a strop and why is it essential for knife care ?

Strops are used to preserve the sharpness of a knife's edge. They are user-friendly and, when consistently used after knife use, contribute to prolonged sharpness, reducing the need for frequent sharpening with coarser tools like diamond or whetstone.

Using a strop involves placing the knife's edge against the leather and drawing the blade away from its edge towards the spine. This process should be repeated approximately 20 times on each side. One side typically has a coarser surface, with the other side being finer. Optionally, for enhanced abrasiveness, stropping paste can be applied on the coarser side. Crafted by artisans, Casstrom's strops feature vegetable-tanned Italian Leather around 3.5 mm thick, encompassing a core of waxed European Oak. The Field Strop measures 13 x 3 cm and features the Casström logo. Watch the video below on how to use a strop.
