Savotta Niukka 20L Backpack

The Savotta Niukka 20L is a durable, minimalist backpack made from 500D Cordura, designed for users who want a clean, reliable pack without unnecessary bulk. Whether you're after an EDC backpack, hiking daypack, or compact field pack, the Niukka delivers practical performance with the ability to scale when needed.

Unlike many 20L packs that are either overbuilt or too basic, the Niukka strikes the perfect balance between simplicity, durability, and modular capability.

 
Internal Layout & Storage
The Niukka 20L features a full clamshell opening main compartment, allowing unrestricted access to all contents—similar to a suitcase-style layout. This makes packing, organisation, and access significantly easier than traditional top-loading packs.

Inside the main compartment:

• Dedicated hydration bladder sleeve with tie-down loops
• Central webbing tab for securing hydration systems
• Dual tube ports (left and right side)
• Two zippered mesh compartments for organising smaller items
  • Upper pocket includes a D-ring for securing valuables

The front compartment runs the full height of the pack and provides approximately 3 cm of depth—ideal for storing bulkier but compressible items such as jackets or ponchos.

 
Access & Usability
All zippers are fitted with large cord loops, allowing:

• Quiet operation
• Easy use with gloves
• Faster access in field conditions

The clamshell opening can also be partially restricted using the lower compression straps if required.

 
External Carry & Expansion
Despite its minimalist design, the Niukka offers multiple ways to carry additional gear externally:

• Side compression straps with G-hooks
  • Compress internal load
  • Secure external gear
  • Attach additional pouches or packs to the front
• Webbing loops above compression straps
  • Suitable for cord, carabiners, or straps
• Bottom PALS webbing
  • Designed for attaching:
    • Sleeping mats
    • Tarps
    • Rolled clothing
• Front webbing loops can also be used with elastic cord to carry lightweight items externally.

Back Panel & Support
The pack features a removable closed-cell foam back panel, housed in an external hook-and-loop compartment.

This panel:

• Provides structure and comfort during carry
• Can be removed and used as a sitting or kneeling pad
• Allows the compartment to be used for flat-packed items such as tarps
   

Carry System

• Padded, contoured shoulder straps
• Mounted via steel D-rings to allow natural movement and better fit across different body types
• Shoulder straps are removable and replaceable
• Sternum strap is adjustable and removable

This setup improves comfort while maintaining durability and simplicity.
