Catahoula “Survivalist Net” - Gill Net for Fishing

The gill net stands out as the most common survival net type, consisting of vertical panels of netting typically arranged in a linear fashion. Catahoula Manufacturing Inc offer a range of gill nets with this being the “Survivalist Net” which features a top and bottom string tied in. Fish are captured by gill nets through 4 primary methods:

  • Wedged: Entrapped by the mesh around the body
  • Gilled: Held by the mesh slipping behind the opercula (the most common method)
  • Tangled: Captured by teeth, spines, or fins without penetrating the mesh
  • Pulled along the shoreline as a seine to gather a group of fish

You would utilise a gill net by simply suspending it between 2 anchor points and allowing it to hang vertically in the water. The top of the net need not necessarily break the water's surface and can be deployed across streams, ponds, or lakes. The net can serve to trap rabbits and other small game. The Survivalist Net is a highly efficient fishing tool, remember to exercise caution to avoid catching or retaining more fish than necessary for consumption or preservation. The “Survivalist” Gill Net is crafted from nylon for its lighter weight and superior effectiveness compared to monofilament, and comes fully assembled and ready for immediate use.
